Ever had a day when you feel sad that your nose is "too big", your waist is "too thick", your skin is not "clear enough", your calves are "too small", your teeth not "white enough"… You get the idea. As a plump child I was picked on terribly–I was convinced for many, many years that if I was thinner my life would be better. I remember, in elementary school, changing in the locker room before gym with all the other girls in my class….the girl next to me was staring and then said…"You are so fat." Her disgust perplexed me and I felt a profound wave of shame. I was only 8 years old. The truth is as women and girls we are raised in a world where, from a very young age, we are taught that how we are naturally is simply not good enough.Based on standards of "perceived perfection" we learn to see ourselves as flawed. We grow to believe that in order to be truly happy we need to remedy these flaws. No matter the cost. Ironically, the very training that undermines our own sense of personal beauty begins to become not a way of thinking but a way of living. We now value our self worth on impossible and highly manipulated unattainable standards.
IT IS TIME for change.
Trisha Miltimore presents programs designed to help young girls regain a sense of personal satisfaction, humble happiness, and genuine love for life! The goal? To help each girl and teen see themselves as the unique, awesome and capable person they are! "Your topic was awesome for this age group because every teen feels self-conscious about their body. Thank you for teaching me that it's not the way to live. "
